Course Leader – MA Ceramic Design and BA (Hons) 3D Designer Maker
The Award Winning 3D Designer Maker programme aims to provide you with an environment in which you can work experimentally, combining materials and a range of designing and making methodologies.
3D Designer Maker is uniquely placed at the ‘heart’ of the ceramic industry in the UK. Students benefit from the strong links we have with our industrial partners in the ceramic industry. Whether you are a ceramicist, jeweller, or designer-maker for interior objects such as furniture and lighting, you will be taught a wide range of making processes and techniques including both traditional and digital technologies, which reflect current trends and practices in an ever-changing world of the designer maker.
We aim to develop your specialist knowledge within your chosen material affinity, enabling you to become a more informed contemporary maker and someone who can use specialist skills, professionally and effectively with an emphasis on high class skills in practical making, experimentation and craftsmanship.

The MA Ceramic Design at Staffordshire University is recognised worldwide as one of the leading postgraduate programmes in ceramic design for small and mass manufacture. Taught in Stoke-on-Trent, the home of UK ceramics for over 2 centuries in the Potteries, this long-established course consistently produces career-ready graduates that are in demand by leading ceramic companies both in the UK and overseas. Tim Forrester is one of Britain's most innovative designers. He achieved great success during a period spent working in Milan & has now returned to the UK to continue designing & manufacturing his high quality, inspirational and versatile furniture ranges.
The UK based designer-maker produces simple yet effective products that are beautiful as well as multi-functional - they demand to be touched, as well as used & admired. Tim’s design philosophy is based around the interaction between object and user and how everyday objects and activities can become more pleasurable, memorable, satisfying yet enjoyable; resulting in furniture that is a fusion between disciplines.
