The games department have moulded me into what I am now. They pushed me into the industry and I have the utmost appreciation and respect for them for that.

Brandon Briggs, BSc (Hons) Computer Games Programming

Brandon Briggs, 23, from Wakefield studied in BSc (Hons) Computer Games Programming and has graduated with first class honours.

During his degree, Brandon embraced opportunities to develop himself and did a paid internship with Stafford-based company River Canal Rescue through the Staffordshire Digital Innovation Partnerships (SDIPs) programme.

After helping the business develop a new app, Brandon was offered a permanent job as Lead Software Engineer and did a placement year before returning to his studies.

He said: “That allowed me to broaden my programming skills. Now, I know that I can do it and I know that if anybody throws a task at me, I’m able to tackle it.”

Brandon took part in careers and networking events hosted by the Games Development department which led to meeting head of games studio Rebellion North and being invited to a job interview.

Before graduating, Brandon secured a job as a Junior Programmer with the company which makes games including the popular Sniper Elite and Zombie Army series.

“Staffordshire Uni’s way of hooking up with industry and pulling them in with GradEX and mock interviews have helped me realise that I should be confident in my skills because what I can do is really good.

“The games department have moulded me into what I am now. They pushed me into the industry and I have the utmost appreciation and respect for them for that.”

Brandon added: “At Staffordshire University you come here for more than a degree. For me the friendships built here are what I will carry with me forever, and I hope to return with my own tales of the industry.”
