Job Title and Responsibilities

I am the Award Leader and Senior Lecturer for the PGCE (PCET) and PGCIE awards.

I hold several wider roles within the Faculty of Business Education and Law and these include (Acting) Academic Partnership Manager and Programme Advisor.

I am a member of the Faculty Research Degree Committee.

About Me

I have 25 years teaching experience in further and higher education. For much of this time I have been involved in leadership, management and curriculum development within the FE and HE.

Expertise

I have extensive expertise of teaching a range of awards (under-grad – PhD) within the field of education; with a specific focus on teaching  in further and higher education.   As well as over 25 years’ teaching experience within the UK I have experience of working in Asia and in Sub Saharan Africa. 

 As well as being an internal examiner and evaluator across a breadth of educational awards at Staffordshire University I am also an  External Examiner for two post compulsory teacher training awards delivered at two Universities and a member of the University Council for Educating Teachers. 

I am researched informed and particularly passionate about the influence that the use of learning to learn strategies can have on learners.  Recent areas of interest and research include how transferable teaching and learning skills are when used in different international contexts and locations.  

I am a lead author for a number of key teacher and training books (post compulsory) as well as a contributing author for several other, educationally focused, texts.

Enterprise and Commercial Activities

I have led and been a team member on securing UK and international partnerships in education.

Research Interests

Current research includes exploring the impact that teaching and learning approaches have on student achievement and the transferability of skills when used in an overseas environment.
