Welcome to your Cyber Security course

During first year of undergraduate, students will study 4 modules as below:

• Digital Technologies: This module delves into the specific areas of technology within computer science, equipping you with the knowledge to navigate and leverage various digital tools and systems. By exploring core elements of the field, you gain insights that are essential for making informed decisions when purchasing, designing, and developing computer systems. Additionally, the module emphasises the application of mathematical skills, enabling you to apply them effectively in computer science contexts. By providing a deep understanding of digital technologies, this module directly contributes to the advancement of computer science careers and the mastery of software development practices.
• Networking Concepts and Cyber Security: This module equips you with the essential knowledge and practical skills to create and comprehend enterprise-grade networks within the computer science and cybersecurity fields. By covering crucial network fundamentals and routing/switching principles from the Cisco CCNA 1 professional certification, you gain a solid foundation in network design and implementation. Furthermore, the module addresses the pressing issue of cybersecurity, a critical aspect in computer science. Understanding and implementing effective cybersecurity measures are paramount in safeguarding software development processes and securing cloud computing environments. By mastering networking concepts and cyber security, you develop a comprehensive skill set that directly enhances your abilities in computer science, enabling you to design resilient networks and protect against potential threats in software development and cloud computing scenarios.
• Software Development and Application Modelling: This module lays the programming foundation for students pursuing computer science, cybersecurity, software engineering, and cloud computing careers. It starts with Python, teaching procedural programming and fundamental concepts. Students develop problem-solving skills and learn to design algorithms. In the second semester, they transition to C# and explore object-oriented programming principles. By learning two languages, students gain versatility and adaptability. Although not explicitly mentioned, this module sets the stage for understanding cloud computing and its integration with programming. Overall, it provides a strong base for specialisation in computer science, cybersecurity, software engineering, and cloud computing.
• Web Development and Operating Systems: This module offers valuable knowledge in web standards and equips you with the skills to build purpose-driven web applications. You will gain insights into the role of web standards bodies, establishing a strong foundation in client-side programming principles such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This enables you to confidently design, implement, and test event-driven web applications. Additionally, the module covers different components of the Linux Operating System, providing essential understanding for computer science and software developers. By mastering web development and operating systems, you acquire a comprehensive skill set crucial for success as a full-stack developer and enhance your ability to create robust, efficient, and scalable software solutions.
