Product Development Lab

The Product Development Lab is one of the resources offered to businesses and students through our Innovation Enterprise Zone.

Equipment at the Product Development Lab is designed to support Staffordshire based businesses with prototyping and product development.

Our Staffordshire Advanced Manufacturing, Prototyping and Innovation Demonstrator (SAMPID) project allows eligible businesses to use equipment in our product development lab free of charge.

Businesses that sign up for the SAMPID programme will have access to cutting-edge facilities through our Innovation Enterprise Zone including collaborative robots, metal 3D printers and a brand-new micro gas turbine.

New equipment - Micro Gas Turbine

The micro gas turbine has been developed by Netherlands-based company Micro Turbine Technology (MTT). Staffordshire University is one of only a few universities worldwide to have acquired the technology for research, development and demonstration purposes.

Eligible businesses have the chance to work with renewable energy researchers, PhD student Hossein Sheykhpoor and Professor Hamidreza Gohari Darabkhani – an expert in low-carbon and renewable energy systems.

You can learn more about our latest technologies (Micro Gas Turbine (MGT) LAB and Micro Combined Heat and Power (Micro-CHP) demonstrator).

All our equipment has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund 2014 – 2020. The equipment is free of charge to Staffordshire businesses participating in the SAMPID programme.
