  • Live projects, where you could be collaborating with tourism boards, event organisers and hospitality providers. Our existing industry links include the likes of Wedgwood, the Marriott Group and Alton Towers
  • Simulation-based experiences, including our strategy room where you’ll make real-time leadership decisions under pressure

The course is designed to be flexible so you can tailor it to your career aspirations. You’ll learn from academics with an array of expertise in business, international tourism, hospitality and events management. Our staff are also actively engaged in research.

Whether you already have a degree related to the visitor economy, or have experience within the industry, you’ll gain the critical insights to navigate complex global environments.

You could go on to a wide range of areas such as senior leadership, consultancy and operational management roles within the global tourism, hotel and leisure sectors. Common career paths include roles as hotel general managers, event planners, destination managers, travel consultants or marketing executives for tourism boards.

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: MSc International Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management

Course content

The course connects academy theory with contemporary and industry-relevant practice in tourism, hospitality and events. It will also introduce you to the fast-paced world of strategic leadership to help you prepare for your future career.

Immersive guest experiences are playing a growing role in the visitor economy, blending consumer psychology with creativity and technology. You’ll investigate how to create these ‘lived’ experiences, using compelling storytelling and digital techniques such as 360-degree videos and VR. You can draw on support from our games design and business experts.

We will also explore innovative practices that promote sustainable travel and tourism, as well as transformative service models. You will cover controversies such as overtourism and cultural exploitation too.

To help hone your leadership skills, you’ll take part in strategy room simulations. Acting as a senior executive with an international organisation, you will respond to a crisis scenario and will make key decisions.

For your major project, you will research a real-world issue of your choice. It could involve coming up with an evidence-based solution or entrepreneurial innovation.
