Undergraduate

Study at Staffordshire University and become part of our Institute of Education.

Influenced by the Staffordshire Centre of Learning and Pedagogic Practice (SCoLPP), our Education degrees combine innovative teaching with work-based learning opportunities, enabling you to make an informed decision about your career aspirations.

Our Education and Early Childhood Studies courses have a core first year and incorporate cross-disciplinary working, so you’ll cover all aspects of education before selecting which path you wish to follow in your second year. Our optional pathways mean you can select to follow a broad Education curriculum for your entire degree or choose to develop specialist knowledge in SEND (special educational needs and disabilities), education for a sustainable world or mental health and wellbeing.

Work experience

Staffordshire University's Institute of Education works with 50+ high performing early years settings and schools within the local area and beyond, to give you work placements where you’ll learn from professionals with direct experience and how to make a valuable contribution as an individual and as part of a team.

Our work placements let you explore how you see yourself and your role within a professional working environment. You will focus on how you work individually and in teams, and how you contribute to the aims, ethos and culture of the workplace.

During your placement, you’ll be supported by a work-based supervisor within the setting and receive feedback on your performance and contribution. We also work with international university partners to provide placement and work experience opportunities abroad. Previous locations have included Holland, Spain and China.

I completed three work placements a year at local schools and taught a range of pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The staff at the schools always made sure they were available and taught me how to be a professional. If you say you're from Staffordshire University when on placement, people know they have a quality student.
