Sexual Health

If you are registered with a GP, contraception services can be obtained from the GP Practice. See Student Health Service.

Sexuality

If you define yourself as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender or if you are experiencing doubts or problems about your sexuality, there are a number of people you can speak to for advice and support some of whose contact details can be found here.

Skills Space

On the ground floor of the Thompson Library the Skills Space is the main area to find the Academic Skills Know-how staff in Stoke. This area is staffed 11am to 5pm Monday to Friday. You can call in and talk to one of our team about any academic skills issues.  They can make an appointment with an appropriate specialist if we cannot solve your problem immediately.

Sports Centres

There is a Sports Centre at our Stoke-on-Trent campus offering a wide range of sporting activities, fitness suites and leisure activities delivered by fully qualified instructors.

Student Activities

The Students’ Union offers a variety of supported activities ranging from competitive sports or one-off events, to cultural activities, media involvement (OMG Radio and Staffs TV) or special interest groups. We have over 80 different clubs and societies and with so many opportunities to get involved there’s bound to be one to suit to you. But if we don’t currently offer what you want we may be able to help you to set up a new club or society with funding and support.

Student Charter

The University’s Student Charter has been produced jointly by the University and the Students’ Union. It provides students with details of what they can expect from the University in terms of the learning opportunities and related services which we offer together with the main services provided by the Students’ Union. It also sets out, where appropriate, what is expected from students so that a positive learning partnership can be established and developed, resulting in both an enjoyable and a successful learning experience.

Student Guidance

Lots of students need a bit of help on a wide range of issues and that's why we have Student Guidance Advisors at hand to offer specialist information and support throughout your studies.  

They can provide advice, guidance and information on things such as changing your course, taking time out or leaving, appeals and complaints, extenuating circumstances and University regulations.

Student Health Service

NHS (National Health Service) Medical Services available at our Campuses.

  • A variety of services including treatments for minor ailments and injuries, chronic disease management, smoking cessation service, national screening programmes and travel health. 

  • Contraceptive advice and sexual health advice. 

  • There is a wealth of information available from the surgeries in the form of free leaflets.

Meningitis Vaccination for first-time University entrants

NHS England and Public Health England have released important information on the new vaccinations for first-time university entrants. All prospective first time entrants are encouraged to:
1.     Take up the offer of the vaccination when offered by their GP from August 2015, before starting university;

And from the beginning of the new academic term:
2.     Register with a new GP (for new entrants who have moved away from their previous area of residence);
3.     Request the MenACWY vaccination from their new GP if they did not receive the vaccine before starting university.

Student Hub

The Student Hub is home to a wide range of student support facilities that have previously been located across our Stoke-on-Trent campus.

Student ID Card

The student card is a registration, library and Students’ Union card all in one. In accordance with regulations, you are required to carry it at all times.

  • If you lose your card you’ll need to pay for a new one at through the online shop

  • A first replacement will cost you £7 

  • Take your receipt to the Student Hub at Stoke or the Information Points at Stafford and Shrewsbury to get the replacement card

Student Loan

If you have applied for a student loan you will need to ensure you complete your annual course enrolment at the University and, if you are a new student, collect your student card from the Student Hub at Stoke or the Information Points at Stafford and Shrewsbury.

  • The University will automatically forward your details to the Student Loans Company once your annual course enrolment is completed. 

  • This will initiate an electronic transfer payment of your first loan instalment directly into your nominated bank/building society account within three working days.

the Students’ Union Student Advice Centre.

Student Portal

e:VisionStaffs is Staffordshire University’s portal that allows you to access information and complete tasks related to your studies. 

You can use e:VisionStaffs from inside or outside of the University via the ‘Current Students’ section on the home page, e:VisionStaffs link is under 'Useful Links' on the right hand side.

You should login to e:VisionStaffs using your University network login and there are a variety of activities that you can access in the portal. These include: 

  • Check and update your contact details and address

  • Register with a Doctor

  • Join the electoral role

  • Access student card details

  • Course and module details

  • Access your timetable

  • View your results

  • Make claims for Extenuating Circumstances

  • Access additional support if applicable. 

There is also an Alerts area, University links and information on who your Personal Tutor and Course Leader are.

Students’ Union – Every student will be proud to be part of Staffs

The Students’ Union is an organisation that is here to help, advise, entertain, develop and serve you. As a charity, we are responsible for providing a wide range of services that ensure your time at university is the best it can possibly be. Through your Union you can gain employment experience and skills, volunteer in the community and at University, play sports casually or as part of a team, take part in cultural or education activities in a society or as one–off experiences, enjoy great food and drink and have the best nights out, and be part of a huge student movement that represents and empowers students.

The Students’ Union receptions are the first point of contact for students, staff and visitors at the Students’ Union. 
They provide information on a wide range of subjects and are staffed by students who will be able to answer many of the questions you may have.

Students’ Union Officers

The Full-Time Sabbatical Officers are elected and paid to represent students at Staffordshire. They are trustees of the organisation, making the major financial and strategic decisions that help you get the best experience for its members, which is every student at Staffs. Officers are elected every Spring in our Leadership Race(https://www.staffsunion.com/representingyou/leadershiprace/), and are in-office from July to the following June.

Students’ Union Student Advice Centre

The Students’ Union Student Advice Centre is one of the core services operated by the Students’ Union. It offers completely free advice to Staffs Uni students, both face-to-face and now online via our website chat service. The service offers:

  • Free, independent and confidential advice to the student body  

  • Up-to-date information on funding, benefits, housing laws, course regulations, fitness to practice, academic misconduct, legal matters etc  

  • Fully trained and experienced advisors who are student specialists
