Research Methods and Cognitive Psychology

Masterclass

Outline

Students will be given the opportunity to be involved in cognitive psychology research. With the help of keynote sessions from academic staff, students will work in small groups in order to collaborate on a study investigating cognitive functions (e.g. memory, attention, facial recognition). Towards the end of the visit, students will interpret and evaluate the outcomes of the research, considering how this might lead to future work.

Throughout the day, students will experience the research process first-hand and engage with a variety of specialist psychology resources and equipment. They will develop their research skills, including analytical thinking and critical evaluation, as well as furthering their knowledge of research methods and psychology equipment.

In the summary, discussions will evolve around how psychology underpins everyday life and students will be introduced to the wide range of roles and career options that are available to psychology graduates.
