Join our open-access Undergraduate Summer School in 2024. Our programme is open to any student currently studying at university on any undergraduate (Bachelors) programme outside the United Kingdom.

Every year Staffordshire University welcomes students from universities around the world to our Stoke-on-Trent and London campuses to enjoy a programme of social and cultural events, helping students to make the most of their time in the United kingdom.

Our two-week programme includes a variety of campus delivered workshops and field trips to provide a flavour of our Staffordshire Universities ethos and expertise.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions and we’ll be happy to help. We also have a dedicated Student Support and Experience Team ready to welcome you. If you need to contact them during your stay, email: student-support@staffs.ac.uk.

About Stoke-on-Trent

Stoke-on-Trent is a unique city, with its own culture and heritage.  The city is creative and a place where art, technology and business come together through craftmanship to make beautiful things – Stoke-on-Trent is the World Capital of Ceramics.

Staffordshire is an English county rich in history with ancient cathedrals, medieval castles, magnificent stately homes, miles of gardens and extensive waterways.  Staffordshire is well positioned and with fast, easy connections by road or rail to other major UK Cities including Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and London.

During your stay, we plan to show you some of Staffordshire’s top visitor attractions, such as picturesque Trentham Gardens which has its own unique shopping village and if you like rollercoasters, you’ll love Alton Towers Resort. Stoke-on-Trent is famous for being the world capital of ceramics, so we’ve pencilled in a visit to the home of Wedgwood pottery. There’s plenty of culture and entertainment on our doorstep as well, including theatres, cinemas, art galleries and museums. What’s more, our campus is within walking distance of the city centre’s shops, cafes and bars – and a short stroll away from 60-acre Hanley Park.

What to expect

Our two week programme is delivered at both our Stoke-on-Trent and London campuses and includes workshops by academics focussing on  academic, employability and intercultural skills development.  We also have plenty of field trips and fun activities to help you make the most of your time visiting the United Kingdom.

You will be able to study alongside students from a range of different backgrounds and cultures and have a unique opportunity to form global friendships that may last a lifetime.

Accommodation

You’ll find a comfortable home from home in our campus accommodation, where you can make friends with other students and sample life here. This self-catering accommodation is located on the university campus.

Whilst in London we will make use of hotel accommodation (2* or 3*) that is located close to public transport for travelling around the Capital and to our London Campus.  Hotel accommodation is offered on a twin sharing basis.

Meals

Breakfast is provided daily.  Other meals are included when they are shown on the itinerary, which will be published closer to the event.  On days when meals are not included you are free to make your own arrangements for lunch/dinner. Stoke-on-Trent is home to lots of great restaurants, and our university accommodation is equipped with full kitchen facilities, so you will be able to prepare your own food if you prefer.

Visas and Insurance

We expect most students joining our SU Global International Undergraduate Summer School will be able to study as a visitor (a standard visitor visa usually allows a short course of study lasting no longer than 6 months).

However - you must check your own status and seek any advice independently. We cannot tell you which visa to apply for, so we recommend you visit the UK Government's website for further information on visas for entry to the United Kingdom.

Travel Insurance is essential and a mandatory requirement for joining our SU Global International Undergraduate Summer School.

The insurance must cover:

  • emergency medical assistance and medical costs
  • protection in the event of cancellation or curtailment
  • cover for the loss, theft of or damage to baggage
  • loss of personal money.

Cancellation for any reason is always very much a last resort.  However, we do reserve the right to cancel our SU Global International Undergraduate Summer School for health or operational reasons.  If we need to cancel we will refund your fees. The University’s liability will not extend beyond this refund. We will not be liable for any associated costs of attending ISS you have been unable to recover e.g. travel costs. Please ensure you have appropriate travel insurance.

When you make your booking with us we will reserve accommodation and organise visit bookings on your behalf.  Unfortunately, we are not able to refund deposit payments or other fees. Please ensure that you take out appropriate travel insurance as soon as you make your booking with us.
