To give you an insight into what life as a Healthcare Science student is like, your course leaders have prepared introductions to the course and further activities.

The aim of this programme is to develop and enhance your professional practice by integrating your expertise with academic skills, practice, and knowledge. The programme will take you through a meaningful process of enquiry culminating in research-lead evidenced based practice. The programme provides a unique opportunity for you, to combine your expertise and academic endeavour to explore practical real-world issues in a chosen field through a bespoke framework of research training. The programme structure allows for inter-professional work and study which is an indicator of high-quality innovative programmes. The combination of research expertise and experience of research supervisory and the course delivery team, strengthens the programme both emulating and modelling the best inter-disciplinary professional practice.

First activity

Induction is the first activity that is available through Blackboard. The content can be accessed through the “Professional Doctorate in Healthcare Science” organisation on Blackboard. 

Course content

The programme at Level 7 includes 180 credits taught with a focus on the application and impact of learning.

 Developing Leadership and Project Management skills (40 Credits)

 Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methodologies (40 Credits)

 Research Ethics and Governance (40 Credits)

 Critical Appraisal and Translational Research (40 Credits)

 Elective (Negotiated content) Module (20 Credits total)

The programme at Level 8 (360 credits) entails an extended piece of research, together with the supporting modules that are required to perform this research to the highest standard.

 Literature Review and Research Proposal (40 Credits)

 Developing Advanced Clinical Research Practice and Dissemination (40 Credits)

 Doctoral Research Thesis and viva (280 Credits)

In most cases the research topic will be a practical problem relevant to the student’s profession and field of practice and can be carried out in the student’s own organisation.

Course delivery

While the course is delivered through blended learning most of the content across different modules is delivered online. The students are expected to attend the occasional face to face contacts on campus throughout the course.
