Work-Based Education Officer

About Our Work-Based Education Officers

As a student officer at the University of Staffordshire, you have access to various support services to help you succeed in your early policing career and beyond. Our Work-Based Education Officers (WBEO’s) are responsible for overseeing the pastoral care of our PCDA student officers, for any general concerns or issues that you may have throughout the PCDA programme, conducting tripartite reviews, and providing support to our partners' apprenticeship teams.

For any academic support needs, you can contact the relevant Module Lead or the Study Skills Team in the library.

Your WBEO will meet with you at the beginning of week one of the University learning. They will give a summary of the course and provide an overview of their role and the support you can expect to recieve.

Additionally, in week 5, your WBEO will hold a session to cover how you can record the Operational Off the Job Training (OJT). 'Off the Job training' refers to new learning or skills that you gain during paid working time to help you achieve the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs) of the Apprenticeship standard. They will also discuss with you the importance of evidencing new learning and the expectations of you in your progress review meetings.

In week 12 you will have your first progress review meeting (known as a Tripartite Review). This is conducted alongside your force representative and is an important milestone. The meetings will then continue 12-weekly until the end of your learning journey.

"My WBEOs ensured that I was reminded of any submissions that were required regarding logs and sergeant feedback to meet the requirements for the course. This was especially helpful when trying to juggle all the different aspects of the course and having a complex work-life balance. My WBEOs did an amazing job in very difficult circumstances, and I very much owe my achieving getting to this stage to them both."
