Staffordshire University has risen 36 places in the People & Planet University League Table

We know that issues like climate change and sustainability are of great importance to students and we are delighted that our ongoing commitment to sustainability is recognised in the People & Planet University league table.
The annual sustainability league table ranks UK universities for environmental and ethical performance. Staffordshire University was categorised as a 2:1 class university, placing it 54th out of 150 institutions, in recognition of its commitment to sustainability.
The 2023/24 league table assessed institutions on 14 sustainability categories, including environmental strategy and policy, waste and recycling, managing carbon and carbon reduction.
Staffordshire University scored 100 per cent in environmental policy, acknowledgement of its publicly available policy and clear sustainability strategy, as well as notably high scores of 80 per cent for staff and student engagement and carbon reduction.
Sally McGill, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Lead for sustainability at Staffordshire University, said: “We know that issues like climate change and sustainability are of great importance to students and we are delighted that our ongoing commitment to sustainability is recognised in the People & Planet University league table.
“Over the last few years, we have dedicated a lot of time to making sustainability a strategic priority and to reducing consumption and waste.
“We have also launched our new sustainability web pages that clearly set out our environmental sustainability strategy, our targets and progress, so that students, staff and our wider communities can stay up to date with our key milestones.”
The People & Planet league table also rated Staffordshire University highly in ethical investment and banking (76 per cent), water reduction (67 per cent), and education for sustainable development (65 per cent), a score which takes into account the University’s Carbon Literacy Training programme which is available to all students and staff.
Sally added: “Over the next year, we will continue to drive forward our sustainability agenda, monitoring regularly and looking at areas for continued improvement. We hope that by working closely with staff and students, local communities and partner organisations we can make further progress in our ambitious strategic vision for sustainability.”
