Marine and Wildlife Conservation

Various charities are able to offer students a 2 week – 6 months opportunity to work closely with the Sri Lankan Environmental Department, and other award winning marine conservation projects.

Students can travel to Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, Kefalonia, Costa Rica, and Madagascar to create sustainable programmes. Working on projects to re-generate key areas of rainforest as well as maintaining and protecting coral reefs and the marine life in the various locations around the world. The various hands-on projects will have you fully immersed in environmental conservation – whether it be helping with the restoration of sea turtle numbers along the coast, replanting indigenous trees, creating artificial nests for tree frogs or protecting the large Posidonia seagrass meadows.

Accommodation, meals and local transport as well as in country and UK support are provided by the various charities.

The experience is open to all Staffordshire University students, with unlimited spaces available. You may be able to claim Turing funding to help support you on this opportunity (minimum 28 day duration excluding travel)

Travel to the various destinations is permitted according to the travel rules for England as listed on the UK Government’s website. Further information/guidance can be found on the FCDO webpage for each country.

All participating students will receive up to date Covid and general travel advice by email and in pre-departure briefing sessions (mandatory attendance).
