Course outline

Journalism at Staffordshire University has a reputation as one of the leading providers of journalism training and education in the UK.

We enjoy very strong links with the journalism industry and our staff have a wide range of industry expertise in areas such as sports journalism and PR, politics, media law, new media and photojournalism.

Our researchers collaborate with a number of scholars nationally and internationally and operate on a cross-disciplinary basis. The team has particular research strengths in new digital media, social media, politics and political communication, photojournalism and the history and sociology of journalism.

We would particularly welcome PhD applications from students interested in research into these topics, from any area of journalism (for example, sports, PR, music, games, news).

MPhil/PhD Journalism award may be studied in full-time, distance learning or part-time mode, and we consider applications for part-time studies outside the UK on a case-by-case basis. We strongly advise you to contact us for an informal discussion about your proposed research before you make a formal application. We will be happy to discuss with you what is involved in PhD level study and how to develop a PhD research proposal. Please contact Professor Mick Temple for more information.
