Our International Aviation Law And Regulation LLM course is designed specifically for MOD personnel.

Students graduating from this course will demonstrate an advanced knowledge, research skills and practical training in areas including international aviation law and regulation, international aviation policy and regulation as well as the legal applicability of risk and any criminal/civil liability. These rules govern the complex relationship between States, Service Providers and Passengers. Successful completion of this course enhances employability prospects within the civilian sector as well as providing a solid foundation for doctoral research or study.

Course content

Entry requirements

The entry to the course is by selection by the RAF. Commencement of the course is dependent on satisfactory completion of pre-course preparation. All students admitted on to the LLM must have successfully completed an in-house RAF training course delivered and assessed by experts within the field of aviation law and regulation. All students will be awarded 120 credits advanced standing in recognition of this prior study and will therefore be required to undertake a further 60 credits, delivered by Staffordshire University, in order to achieve the award.

Teaching and assessment

Teaching

The LLM in International Aviation Law and Regulation is delivered flexibly and can be studied part-time across one year. The course uses a blended learning approach to delivery and independent study. Content will be delivered using technology enhanced learning which will involve the use of the Blackboard virtual learning environment (VLE). There will be a selection of learning activities which may include use of online materials and guided reading, podcasts, use of video and recording clips, online discussion boards and blogs. Students will also have the opportunity to interact using social media.

Assessment

All modules are individually assessed via one or more methods dependent upon the requirement of that module. The method of assessment is chosen to ensure that we can verify that you have met the learning outcomes of the module. These methods may include individual coursework assignments, written reports, discussion contributions and practical exercises.

Typically, assignment submission and feedback will be via Blackboard Learning Portal. Practical assessments may be done online but sometimes may involve attendance at the University. Module results will also be made available electronically.

Learning support

A personal tutor will be appointed who is a subject matter expert. Support for any modules will be conducted face-to-face, via email, or telephone.

Feedback

Your course will provide you with opportunities to test your understanding of your subject informally (through formative feedback) before you complete the formal assessments. Each module normally includes practice or 'formative' assessments for which you receive feedback from your tutor. Practice assessments are developmental and any grades you receive for them do not count towards your module mark but are essential for you to develop academically as a student. There is a formal or 'summative' assessment at the end of each module and the grades from formal assessments count towards your module mark. You will normally receive feedback on coursework assessments within 20 working days following the date of submission. The feedback you receive will help to focus you to achieve better grades on the next set of modules you study.
