Enhancing Peri-Operative Care

Overview

Enhance your skills in peri-operative care in a professional environment with Staffordshire University. This independent module is dedicated to the demonstration, development and enhancement of clinical practices in the operating theatre and associated areas.

This module provides perioperative practitioners with the opportunity to demonstrate the development and enhancement of their clinical practice through a work-based learning approach that’s backed up with University-led workshops.

Your study is specifically tailored to your professional needs and gives you the support you need to use examples from your current career to as evidence to enhance your career or renew your professional registration.

During the module, you will demonstrate how you have improved your knowledge and skills through participation in areas like establishing in-service programmes, developing service user care services, or mentoring/supervising staff or students.

Delivery Method

This module is a work-based student centred design, which takes account of the individual student's personal development needs. The majority of the learning will be independent study. This will be divided - identified clinical development, supportive reading and the compilation of evidence for the portfolio. The student will require the support of an identified mentor, who is able to facilitate clinical learning opportunities and verify the currency of the evidence included within the portfolio. Student contact hours will include workshops to explore methods of achieving the personal development plan and learning outcomes. Group and individual tutorials as well as access to supportive educational materials through Blackboard VLE.

Contact Hours: (42), 9 hours Lectures / workshops, 10 hours Blackboard, 23 hours Tutorials.

Independent Study Hours: (258), 100 hours Clinical development, 60 hours Reading and study, 50 hours Compilation of evidence for portfolio, 48 hours Assignment preparation.

Entry requirements

Students may either be enrolled on the BSc (Hons) Perioperative Care pathway or may study this as a stand-alone module. All participants must be registered with the HCPC or NMC and must be working in the operating department or associated areas.
