If you’ve applied for a course at Staffordshire University but haven't fully met our English language requirements, you may be eligible to study a pre-sessional English (6-week or 12-week) course.
By taking this course you will:

- Prepare for your academic study and life in the UK
On successful completion of the course, you will have the confidence to undertake your studies at Staffordshire University without the need to take any further English language tests.
Course structure, content and requirements
6-week Pre-Sessional (for January 2023 intake)
Course dates: 10th October to 18th November 2022
Deadline to apply: 30th September 2022*
Full course fee: £750
Accept and pay deadline: 5th October 2022*
Entry requirement: Offer holders with an overall IELTS of 5.5 (no component below 5.0) minimum or equivalent**

Teaching methods and learning outcomes
All classes will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams.
There will be up to 20 online contact hours each week. Sessions will cover both general and academic English. These classes are designed to help you improve your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to help you cope with everyday life in the UK, and to prepare you for university study. They will also help you to develop your overall vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation whilst improving your potential IELTS score.

If you successfully complete the Pre-Sessional and achieve an overall Password Skills test score equivalent to B2/IELTS 6 (with no component below 5.5 in each skill), you will automatically meet the English language entry requirements for Staffordshire University degree programmes.

How do I apply
The length of course (6 or 12 weeks) you need to take depends on your current English language test scores or ability and how much you need to improve to reach the English language requirements for the degree you wish to study with us.
Please email our PSE team (PSEnglish@staffs.ac.uk) giving your student reference number which you will find this at the top of your offer letter for the direct application link.
Please be aware that the applicant will need to pay the full fee (£750 or £1,500) for the PSE course, and the £3500 deposit for the degree course which you have accepted the conditional offer to enrol on to the PSE course.
