I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1996 with a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science. I joined Staffordshire University as a Sport & Exercise Technician in October 1998 and progressed to become a Physiology Learning Support Technician in June 2000 which preceded my current role of Technical Skills Specialist (Sport) within Sport & Exercise.

Expertise

As a technical skills specialist for Sport my expertise lies in the following areas:

  • Physiology and Nutrition based laboratory and field testing for teaching and research including online gas analysis (Cortex Metalyser and Cortex Metamax), body composition measurement via air displacement plethysmograph (BodPod), muscle function testing via isokinetic dynamometry (Kin-Com 125E) and maximal exercise intensity testing (Wingate and Opto Jump).

  • Health and Safety - risk assessments, DSE Assessments and accident investigations etc.

  • Procurement of specialist equipment and consumables.
