Majid Ali is a lecturer in the Engineering department at the University of Staffordshire. His work sits at the join between electronics, computing and higher-education teaching, with a record of laboratory delivery, assessment and programme quality.
He previously taught mechatronics engineering to Rolls-Royce apprentices at the University of Derby’s Nuclear Skills Academy, covering analogue and digital electronics, principles of electronics and engineering communication. That role included standardisation, portfolio sampling and learner-progress tracking against Pearson and EAL requirements. At Elizabeth School of London he has also led a Level 6 Computer Science cohort and taught software development in Java, C and Python, including induction, timetabling, assessment and feedback.
Before lecturing, he was Technical Specialist and interim technical manager for electrical and renewable-energy facilities at Staffordshire, supporting timetabled teaching, open access and research, and preparing laboratories with MATLAB, Multisim and LabVIEW. From 2018 to 2021 he was Associate Lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering there, delivering digital communications with MATLAB and Simulink. Earlier industry experience includes coordinating multi-site telecoms installation projects with Huawei stakeholders.
He holds an MSc in Telecommunications Engineering (Merit) from Staffordshire University, with a Distinction dissertation on controlling an electronic device using brain signals, and a BEng in Electronics Engineering from Hamdard University, Karachi. Selected publications include work on harmonic estimation in distribution networks and on brain-signal extraction and processing.
