Automotive, Motorsport and Future Transport Engineering

This multi-purpose, industry standard lab facilitates training, research and academic contextualization related to Automotive and Motorsport studies.

The area accommodates a multitude of dedicated instructional sessions to contextualise your academic study, promote innovation and to give practical, first-hand experience in a broad spectrum of Automotive and Motorsport disciplines including Electric vehicle research and development.

As an Automotive & Motorsport Engineering student you will have the opportunity to be involved in many activities and projects such as;

  • Vehicle checks - Carry out a vehicle set up prior to track action and have your set up tested while you’re on board for three hot laps around Oulton park race circuit.
  • The Staffordshire University Racing Team - Preparing, maintaining and running a Formula Renault Carbon Fibre Monocoque racing car in the Monoposto Championship : www.staffsuni.racing
  • Emergency experience - Get hands on experience of behind the scenes in case of emergencies with the BARC NW rescue team
  • The Formula Student competition - This brings together about 100 teams from all over the world to design and build a single-seat racing car. Competing teams spend one year designing, building, and testing their cars. Then, at Silverstone, UK, they present their projects to the judges, as well as demonstrate their technical solutions on the racetrack by competing in various static and dynamic events.
  • Formula Student (FS) - Europe's most established educational engineering competition and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2018. Backed by industry and high-profile engineers such Patron, Ross Brawn OBE, the competition aims to develop enterprising and innovative young engineers and encourage more young people to take up a career in engineering.
