University Award Certificates

All students completing their awards in June/July should receive a certificate at graduation.

Students completing at other times of the year can expect their certificates to be issued within 8 weeks of receiving formal notification of their award.  Please check your home address is correct as certificates will be posted via Royal Mail to the address listed as a student's 'home address' on eVision.

I Never Received My Certificate

If you completed within the last 6 months and have not yet received your certificate, please contact awards@staffs.ac.uk. Please include a copy of your student ID in your email, and your full legal name and date of birth.

If 6 months have passed since you completed and you have not received your certificate you will need to purchase a replacement from our online store. Please refer to the section below for more information.

Replacement Certificate

Certificates are legal documents and only one can be in circulation at a time.

If you graduated after 1993 and your certificate has been lost or destroyed, a replacement should be ordered via our Online Shop. All replacement certificates cost £50.

Before purchasing a replacement certificate, you must email awards@staffs.ac.uk with a copy of your photo ID (e.g., passport or driver’s licence). Your ID must evidence the name you used whilst enrolled at the university. If you have since changed your name, we will need to see proof of this such as a marriage certificate or Deed Poll documentation (the identity document is needed to verify your identity only and it will be securely destroyed by the university). You will then be sent a validation code.

Transcripts

From July 2022 all Staffordshire University graduating students on a taught award delivered in the UK will receive a Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR).  Paper transcripts can only be provided on request and may incur a charge for production.  The HEAR allows graduates to digitally share an authentic record of their studies with agencies and employers, providing more flexibility than paper transcripts.  We also feel that providing transcripts digitally is a more sustainable approach. Visit our HEAR page for more information.

Students studying overseas will continue to receive paper transcripts, whilst we assess digital options for this provision.

If you are a Nursing or Midwifery graduate and you need documents to support an emigration to work outside of the UK then please email Lynne Ashcroft for advice.

Paper Transcripts

Paper transcripts cost £20.00 per copy and should be ordered via our Online Shop.

Before purchasing a paper transcript, you must email awards@staffs.ac.uk with a copy of your photo ID (e.g., passport or driver’s licence).

Historic Transcripts

It is not always possible to provide a full transcript to students with historic awards as not all departments held comprehensive archived records for previous graduates. Therefore, we are unable to guarantee that a complete set of module information has been preserved for all former students. Whilst we will make every effort to acquire your module information to produce a transcript, we can only do so if this information has been archived. This can sometimes be a timely process and we cannot guarantee the availability of information related to your course.

If we are unable to produce a transcript, we can issue a letter confirming the information we have found in relation to your award.

If you graduated before 1993

We are unable to provide replacement certificates or transcripts for pre- 1993 study  as those awards were delivered by Staffordshire Polytechnic or North Staffordshire Polytechnic. These will fall into one of the following two categories:

  • The Council for National Academic Awards (CNAA): CNAA was the awarding body for Staffordshire Polytechnic and North Staffordshire Polytechnic courses including most degree and PGCE courses.  CNAA no longer exists but the Open University are now responsible for their records and can provide replacement certificates.

  • BTEC courses: you can obtain a replacement certificate for pre- 1993 BTEC awards (such as HND or HNC) from Edexcel/Pearson.

Award verification

We are pleased to announce the implementation of the Higher Education Degree Datacheck (HEDD) online verification service for employers and agencies to verify Staffordshire University awards. Please note that this service is for third parties only and the enquirer will need to register with HEDD directly.  For further assistance, enquiriers should email heddhelp@prospects.ac.uk.

Award Confirmation Letter

Once you have completed your course and an award has officially been confirmed via an award board, we can produce a letter confirming your award.

Award confirmation letters simply confirm the qualification achieved, result obtained and dates the student commenced and completed the course.

Students can request additional information to be added to the letter subject to verification of our records. We cannot guarantee that all requested information will be included.

The different types of additional information we can add are listed below:

-          Medium of Instruction

-          Mode of delivery (e.g., on campus, distance learning)

-          Mode of study (e.g., full-time or part-time)

-          Confirmation of collaborative academic partnership (this option is only available to students who studied with one of our overseas partners).

If you would like to request any of this information to be added to a letter, please include this in your order.

Award confirmation letters can be purchased from our Online Shop for £10

Alternatively, you can share your HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Report) electronically with third parties as official confirmation of your award. Visit our HEAR page for more information.

Legalisation and Apostilles

Legalisation is the official confirmation that a signature, seal or stamp on a UK public document is genuine and is often required by foreign authorities before they will accept a UK public document for use in their country.

The Apostille is the stamp/certification which is issued by the competent authority in the country. In the UK, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's (FCO) Legalisation Office is the only competent authority to issue apostilles and legalisation certificates. Please visit the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for details on how to apply for your document to be legalised.

Please contact Awards@staffs.ac.uk if you have any questions.
