Jessica Laramy

Graduate story

Jessica Laramy is the UK Marketing Manager for Boon Edam Limited, one of the 27 subsidiaries that sits within Royal Boon Edam International BV. Headquartered within the Netherlands, Boon Edam is the leading global manufacturer of prestigious revolving doors, security access solutions and high-security entrances world-wide. As the “one-man marketing band” for the UK subsidiary, Jessica is responsible for all marketing activities from digital and offline marketing to PR, creative and agency mediation.

“I haven’t been here long compared to most of the employees within the company, but I love it,” she said. “The variety of the work load is great. Today I’m in the office writing press releases, editorial and advertorial, but tomorrow I could be in London working with the area sales managers or interviewing clients for case-studies. I’m currently travelling monthly to our headquarters in Edam, Netherlands, which I really enjoy.”

Fast-track Degree

Having grown up within the British Military, Jessica was raised in Germany, moving back a forth to the UK until finally moving permanently to Kent when she was 15 years old. Here she took A Levels in Business, IT and Law.

Her first job came at an early age, working within the research and development team at the Dover Harbour Board at 16, during summer holidays. “I also did voluntary work with a local charity to try and generate interest for local music events directed at the community, learning about research in my previous job helped a lot,” she recalled. “I knew I wanted to work within business and I knew I wanted to get there quickly, so I took a two-year Fast-track degree at Staffs.”

Jessica began her Fast-track in Business Management in 2012. She completed her work experience at her family business based in Cornwall, Whitsand Bay Fort, with the role of strategic marketing intern. Throughout her degree she worked within the University’s recruitment sector, interviewing graduates for government surveys until graduating in 2014. “On the two-year Fast-track degree, everything happens quite quickly, but we were offered optional modules and I ended up focussing on the digital side of business.”

Digital Marketing

Jessica then moved back to Kent to find work closer to home, landing a job as an Online Operations and Marketing Assistant for Mercury Holidays, a holiday company based in Sevenoaks that enabled people to go on packaged tours around the world. Here she worked on B2C digital marketing, including content creation, admin and web development. She then joined a Microsoft Partner, becoming a Digital Marketing Executive focusing on the ERP solutions Microsoft Dynamics NAV & 365. Here she spent almost three years rebranding the company, from designing the logos, fonts and brochures including re-building and re-designing their main company website along with sub-companies.

“After four years of driving 120 miles a day, to and from work, I got the job as UK Marketing Manager for Boon Edam, which is only a 15-minute drive from my home,” she explained. “I love working within the B2B sector and I have a passion for the SMB environment, so I’m lucky to work for such an impressively successful company, but because we’re a UK branch it still feels like a SMB.”
