Are you considering doing a PhD but are unsure of what this entails, or whether you might be eligible? If so, our Step up to PhD can help.

  • Date:
  • Time: 1pm – 7pm

Step Up to PhD is a free short course run by the Graduate School at Staffordshire University. It is designed to:

  • provide you with some core information about what doctoral research entails
  • help you to reflect upon the practicalities such as cost, timing and time management
  • guide you in developing and refining a research question
  • support you as you write your research proposal

When?

The Step Up to PhD programme takes place on three Thursdays:

  • 6th June
  • 20th June
  • 27th June

These events are held online on Teams. Each of these takes about 45 minutes and will be on Thursdays at either 13.00 or 19.00.

What will you do?

Watch videos of about an hour each; you will be asked to watch these after each session

Reading, searching, writing and reflecting will be required each week. It is up to you how much time you spend, but we recommend 1-2 hours per week

Finally, we ask you to complete a feedback form at the end of the programme

If you are not quite ready, don’t worry; we run the programme twice a year, so you will have another opportunity to take part.
