Since qualifying as a paramedic in 2008, following the completion of a Foundation Degree in Paramedic Science at Coventry University, I have cultivated a broad and evolving career in pre-hospital and urgent care.
My clinical journey began in Warwickshire, and by 2011 I had progressed to the role of Advanced Paramedic. I later relocated to Aldridge, on the border of the West Midlands and Staffordshire, where I continued my work with West Midlands Ambulance Service. Over the subsequent years, I held a variety of clinical roles, including Rapid Response Paramedic and Clinical Team Mentor, each offering new challenges and deepening my experience in frontline care.
In 2015, I took my first formal steps into academia as a Lecturer in Paramedic Science at University of Staffordshire. During this period, I completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Higher Professional Education (with distinction), followed by a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education, and was recognised as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
In 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, I returned to clinical practice to support the NHS response, working as an Emergency Care Practitioner in a busy A&E minor injuries unit. This experience led to a role within primary care, supporting a network of GP surgeries as part of a multidisciplinary paramedic team.
Alongside this, I completed a BSc in Emergency Practice, further enriching my clinical expertise. I have since returned to University of Staffordshire as a Senior Lecturer in Paramedic Science, contributing to both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. I hold a master’s degree in education and maintain a strong interest in learning pedagogies and theory, professional development, clinical education, and interdisciplinary teaching.
Following a rigorous and transformative process, I was awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and hold Fellowship status of the Academy of Medical Educators as well as Fellowship of the Association of Higher Education Professionals. Imminently, I will be beginning a PhD, continuing my commitment to advancing both educational practice and the paramedic profession.
