John Hudson

Course Director

School of Digital, Technologies and Arts

John is Course Leader for Graphic Design (Graphic Communication). He also teaches on both the Illustration and Advertising courses and is year tutor for level 4 Graphic Design. John contributes as supervisor for post-graduate at Staffordshire University also. He was previously Course Leader for MA Digital Media at the University of Worcester and was lecturer in Graphic Design at Stafford College and Newcastle College.

John has worked as a Graphic Designer in a number of International studios with clients such as the BBC, Nike, Sony and The Design Council. He has spent the last decade working and studying as a Freelance graphic designer and design educator.

His research focus is Sustainability, Design for Advocacy and Corporate Social Responsibility within the context of visual communication - He has spoken widely on the subject and delivered papers at a number of International design and education conferences since 2010 and most recently at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2017.

John is external examiner at City of Bristol College & Plymouth University for the FDA Graphic Design and Digital Multi-Media courses.

Research interests

John is an active researcher within the areas of Sustainability, Design for Advocacy and Corporate Social Responsibility within the context of visual communication - He speaks widely on the subject and has delivered papers at a number of International Design and Education conferences since 2010 including Typo Berlin, Berkeley Institute California and at the International Sustainability Conference Japan. His most recent 2017 paper and talk was for Manchester Metropolitan University - 'Implementing Sustainability in the Curriculum' symposium.
