Academic Quality and Development

I am an Academic Developer with a background in conducting Widening Participation research, improving student retention, engagement and progression and supporting educational development initiatives (e.g.; pedagogic training, course design and approval, personal tutoring, etc)

I began my career in HE in 2019 as a Research Assistant in an APP-funded Educational Research and Evaluation Group at NTU. The team reduced inequalities across the student lifecycle for target student groups, particularly in line with the university’s student access, success and progression targets for WP status and disadvantaged student groups. My role was focused on promoting inclusion and equality in university experiences and reducing issues associated with students’ transition and progression, such as the awarding gap. I supported ERET in developing evidence-based solutions through action research projects using my understanding and analysis of student disparities.

During my time as at NTU, the Course Lifecycle Project was initiated to improve and redesign how courses are created and validated. New and collaborative ways of creating/modifying programmes of study were proposed. I supported this cross-institution initiative, through contributing pedagogic and student engagement knowledge to the development of course design processes.

I began fine-tuning my HE knowledge by taking a new role as Educational Development Team Administrator. This team aimed to empower academics to provide excellent teaching and learning at the university. I supported the team in a range of functional areas, from professional development workshops for academics to supporting the design and approval of several programmes of study. Since then, I have started at Staffs as an Academic Developer in March 2022. I look forward to supporting and empowering academic colleagues in evidence-based approaches to providing inclusive, innovative teaching and learning for student success.
