Matthew Linney

ITT Lecturer for Secondary Mathematics (PGCE and TDA)

Education

I have over 25 years’ experience teaching mathematics across secondary and post-16 settings, with a long-standing interest in developing rich mathematical thinking and supporting schools to build strong, sustainable practice.

Throughout my career, I have worked with teachers and leaders to strengthen curriculum design, develop confidence with challenging content, and improve outcomes for pupils. I have contributed to national mathematics education through roles with the NCETM and the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme, working with schools across Staffordshire, Walsall, and the surrounding areas. This has included facilitating professional development, supporting departmental improvement, and designing learning experiences that help both teachers and students engage more deeply with mathematics.

I currently work closely with regional Maths Hubs, leading activity that supports Early Career Teachers as they build secure, research-informed classroom practice. My ongoing Master’s in Education focuses on change processes and the conditions that enable effective teacher development.

Beyond my work in education, I am a committed triathlete, coach, and musician; interests that reflect my belief in discipline, creativity, and lifelong learning.
