Philip Cooke

School of Digital, Technologies and Arts

Phil is a Lecturer on the Esports course at Staffs, as well as being lead for Level 4 students during their first year of study and handling recruitment responsibilities. Specialising in Broadcasting and Events modules, Phil has had experience working on a variety of events globally before moving on to the lecturer team and working on his PgCHPE

I’ve been ingrained in the esports ecosystem on some level for years starting as a fan, then moving into volunteering & working at a number of events, before deciding to progress into and through Higher Education and teaching qualifications to join the teaching team here at Staffs!

My experience centres around esports broadcasting and events management, to date I have worked on a variety of events nationally and internationally in different roles. I was inspired to pursue a career in education by several people who taught me that really went above and beyond to help their students, and I aim to provide that same level of motivation and support to my students now and in the future. In 2021 I began working in a lecturing role here at Staffs, where I’m now working to complete a Post-graduate Certificate in Higher & Professional Education and conducting research to support postgraduate study.

In June 2022 I was offered the role of Level 4 lead, which will see me working to enhance the curriculum and the experience that our students get on their first year of study on the course and making sure everything is in place for them to succeed as best they can. Alongside this, I handle recruitment responsibilities for the course, arranging open days, college visits and academic or practical sessions for external partners.
