Ruth Leftwich

Lecturer

Health, Education, Policing and Sciences

I trained as a midwife at the University of Staffordshire over 20 years ago and began my career at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. As a rotational midwife, I gained extensive experience across all areas of midwifery, including community, antenatal, postnatal, and intrapartum care. I went on to complete specialist training in transitional care of the neonate and the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE). I later became Deputy Ward Manager on a busy antenatal and high-risk postnatal ward, before taking on the role of Clinical Educator. In 2003, I moved into higher education, where I’ve continued to share my clinical knowledge, passion for midwifery, and commitment to high standards of care with the next generation of midwives.
