Stone Group Ltd

Hear how Stone Group Ltd's business benefits after taking on two interns for the Innovation and Productivity Pathfinder programme.

Company Overview

Jack Woolman, Director of Sales Operations & Business Intelligence for Stafford-based Stone Group Ltd, explains that they are a leading IT provider, offering support, services and manufactured hardware to various sectors across the UK.

The business looks to support professionals in higher education, working closely with graduate programmes. This inspired them to access the pilot Innovation and Productivity Pathfinder programme.

Funded Business Support

Upon accessing the project, Stone Group received two fully funded Student Innovation Consultant Interns, Briana and Shihan. The duo looked at the different areas of potential innovation after speaking with all areas of the company, researching ways in which they can implement their findings in a 12-week frame.

They have also received industry guidance throughout the programme from their Innovation Advisor, Ernie Edwards.

Sean Bridgwood, Lead Business Analyst for Stone Group, found the Student Innovation Consultant Interns to be very professional and independent. If they had any questions, they would go to their Innovation Advisor, but were also keen to ask the business useful questions when required to add value.

Project Outcome

Not only did the business gain valuable experience and a bespoke business plan, but the students also gained important skills to take beyond university. They are better prepared to work in a professional business environment post-graduation, as they have developed their communication, presentation, time-organisation skills, and more. Earning whilst learning is an additional bonus.

*The Innovation and Productivity Pathfinder project has been fully funded by the UK Community Renewal Fund. The UK Community Renewal Fund is a UK Government programme for 2021/22. This aims to support people and communities most in need across the UK to pilot programmes and new approaches to prepare for the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. It invests in skills, community and place, local business, and supporting people in employment.

I would absolutely recommend the Pathfinder project to other businesses. This has been a fantastic resource for us.
