Dr Joseph Dixon - Sport and Exercise Psychology lecturer
Dr Joseph Dixon is passionate about supporting individuals, teams and organisations in all areas of performance. Most recently, alongside his role at the University, Joe has been working with Coventry City Football Club as a key part of the performance staff team. And after a 25-year wait, Coventry City has secured promotion to the Premier League.
Joe is a triple-trained occupational, coaching, and sport psychologist (HCPC registered), and is a lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology at the University of Staffordshire.
His expertise is now woven into the fabric of courses within the Department of Sport and Sciences. Our BSc Psychology of Sport and Exercise and MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology students learn from Joe’s experiences, particularly on applied performance psychology, where they translate skills into practice.
His PhD research focused on stress and resilience in professional athletes, and he authored and edited a book in 2020, The Psychology of Soccer. This opens up countless opportunities to learn from someone who knows the context of high performance sport.
Joe said: “It’s fantastic to support our students through sharing ideas and experiences from my applied work.”
