Curious what studying in the Sport and Exercise department here actually feels like? Sport and Exercise Science BSc (Hons) student, Isabella joined us from another university and shares how her experience changed from day one, from tailored feedback to hands-on access to industry-standard equipment:
"Having moved from another university, I honestly can't believe how different my university experience is. The quality of teaching and the support offered to the students are worlds apart.
"The academic staff have been amazing. Dr Paul Mansell is always happy to suggest additional reading for me to enhance my learning and is always available to help clarify and questions asked. And Andy Bloomer has just been invaluable in some assignment help.
"I wanted to make an early start on my physiology assignment and asked for some previous examples of work so I can compare my assignment structure and number of references required, and Andy not only provided me with this, but emailed this morning unexpectedly to suggest some literature which may help with the assignment, and also offered to release my data on body composition which was collected in last week's lecture, compared to other endurance runners, providing me with a really unique and interesting approach for my assignment topic.
"Coming from a university which refused to even read assignments prior to submission to allow for feedback, I can’t express how grateful I am for the academic experience I am having at University of Staffordshire already.
"Not only do I feel supported with my studies, but I am feeling supported by the careers department, who are helping me set up a self-employed coaching business, and also the HPA (High Performance Academy) programme helping me to combine my education with elite sports.
"I am so grateful for all involved in such a great first few weeks."
