I studied English at the University of Cambridge before deciding to pursue a career in Law. After completing my Graduate Diploma in Law at Staffordshire University (with Distinction). I went to the Inns of Court School of Law in London, to undertake the vocational stage of training. I was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1994 and practised as a Barrister specialising in Family and Criminal Law; I studied my LLM in Family Law here at Staffordshire part-time, whilst in practice. I also have professional experience of providing advocacy services to children and young people in local authority care, hospitals and Young Offender Institutions. I am a qualified and experienced teacher in both maintained schools and the Higher Education sector, and my doctoral research is in international student experience of UK academic practices.
