I am a recent addition to the Paramedic lecturing team at the University of Staffordshire, where not long before this I was on the other side of the desk as a student at the university. This has given me the chance to provide a student's point of view around various aspects of the course.
I began my Paramedic journey somewhat delayed into my life, where before university I worked over 12 years in retail. I started my Paramedic course with no previous healthcare or medical background other than the occasional First Aid at Work courses, however, over those years in retail I was able to build my communication skills, which proved to be a vital skill throughout my studies, clinical practice and now teaching.
Alongside teaching, I work clinically as a Paramedic the Events and Sports sector, where I found a my passion in trauma management and care. I also volunteer as a Community First Responder for the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust.
During my time as a student, I was the student Interprofessional Education representative, which provided me with a strong interest in interprofessional and multidisciplinary working. Since joining the lecturing team, I now work closely with colleagues from other healthcare and public service courses and organisation to help provide collaborative learning and development opportunities for the students.
