My background following my BSc Hons in Psychology was in policing with Staffordshire Police as a Response Officer and then in Multi-Agency Safeguarding including domestic violence, child protection and vulnerable adults. On retiring I returned to Staffordshire University to complete the Certificate in Counselling, PGDip, and MSc in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. Professional experience includes working as a counsellor for the NHS staff counselling service, Stoke on Trent Sixth Form College, Younger MIND and Staffordshire University.

Research interests

My MSc research was a qualitative study of students experience of mental health diagnostic labels using interpretative phenomenological analysis, which explored the lived experience of university students who have been diagnosed with a mental health diagnosis to inform therapeutic practice.
