Richard Gilmartin

Lecturer

School of Digital, Technologies and Arts

I’m an automotive designer with 25 years of industry experience. I have worked for major international OEMs on production and show car programmes. I believe in the artistic process of design combining analogue techniques with digital skills to create a future that blends craftsmanship with technology.

My special areas of expertise is in the evolution of transport systems and the integration of technologies to create more efficient transport eco-systems and design within the luxury sector.

I’m a lecturer in Transport Design and an active vehicle designer. During my career I have worked for several premium automotive manufacturers: Bentley, Land Rover, Mini, MG, SAIC and Hongqi. I have led teams in interior design and design visualisation.

As a design professional I have always seen the importance of working with young designers to develop their skills. This created the opportunity to visit global institutions and run international design masterclasses.
