Welcome to your Fashion course

Welcome to the BA (Hons) Fashion Course here at University of Staffordshire. Starting University can be very exciting but also we understand it can be daunting too, so we want to help you prepare in advance and so you know what to expect.

We have put together this short to-do list and information sheet to help you prepare before your first day. Please can you complete these short tasks to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Course Delivery

After great success of blended learning, we will carry on delivering some aspects of the course online, such as theory sessions and CAD workshops. The majority of your practical parts will be taught in our well-equipped workshops on Stoke Campus.

Pre-learning

You will be enrolled onto a Blackboard Organisation called Welcome Module, we the Fashion team have created this module with tasks to complete, this will give you a head start in getting used to Blackboard and other software/apps we use on the course.

Semester one activities

You will be with peers from different educational backgrounds, so we start from the basics of pattern cutting, construction, fashion illustration and CAD. Then you move on to a general overview of the fashion industry learning about all things fashion, avant-garde through to commercial design, you will also be introduced to consumer behaviour and styling and this is just semester 1.

Equipment and software

If you do not have you own laptop, please don’t worry there are computers in our department, the library and across the University that have this software, but you would benefit from investing in some headphones.
