At Staffordshire University you’ll find all the industry-grade facilities and equipment you need to prepare for your future career in the sports sector. Explore the dedicated laboratories and specialist indoor and outdoor learning environments our sport and exercise students use to learn, research, coach and train.

In our £30m Science Centre you’ll find the specialist sports labs that include industry standard analytical lab equipment, kinetic analysis and gait analysis machines, and software such as Dartfish and Tacklesport that will help you understand and enhance athletic performance. If you’re looking to study the sporting mind, we also have The Basil Ashford Sports Psychology Laboratory that contains everything you need to research the areas of exercise psychology and motor learning.

There’s more to Staffordshire University than studying when it comes to sport – we also have extensive sporting facilities for recreational use, including our Sir Stanley Matthews Sports Centre which is fully equipped with everything you’ll need to study and play sport.

The facilities for sports therapy are amazing. I work within the student run Sports Therapy Clinic and am enjoying every minute which I spend working in there and developing my knowledge and experience with external clients. It definitely makes me look forward to graduating and developing a career as a sports therapist.

Philip's expertise lies as a sport and exercise scientist, specialising at master's level in Strength and Conditioning. Philip has many years of coaching experience in a wide range of sport, at all levels.

Rebecca Warnett

Senior Lecturer

Rebecca is course lead and a senior lecturer in Sports Therapy. Since graduating in 2014 from Staffordshire University with a degree in Sports Therapy she has worked in football, ran her own sports injury clinic alongside lecturing.

Edward is a graduate Sports Therapist and researcher. He specialises in exercise in people with non-communicable diseases, specifically the effects of exercise in women diagnosed with breast cancer throughout the stages of their care continuum.

Dr Alexander Blackett

Head Of Department-Sport & Science

Researcher in sport coaching, I consult with international sports organisations and national sports governing bodies to improve coach education, learning and development provision. I was awarded The Queen's Award for Voluntary Services in 2017.

My goal in life was to become a PE teacher. Not only do I want to inspire children through physical activity, but I also want to help them grow and develop as an individual, and to hopefully have an impact on their life that they can take through to adulthood.

The lecturers have always been there if I needed to ask a question, and the support is second to none. They have made my university experience so much more than I could have imagined and have also given me the confidence in myself that I can achieve my dream.
