We appreciate the challenges resulting from the outbreak of the COVID-19 and our thoughts are with those affected. We are closely monitoring the currently dramatic situation, including the advice from the WHO and the Public Health England. At this point in time, we are cautiously optimistic that the conference will be held in November 2020 as originally planned and we therefore continue its preparation. At the same time, we are considering alternative strategies on how to cope with the situation, if the current circumstances persist and the crisis is not over within a reasonable time frame before the conference, we may hold the JCSG 2020 online. Under any circumstance, the conference proceedings on Springer LNCS will be published as scheduled.
The IFIP Joint Conference on Serious Games (JCSG) 2020 will be hosted by Staffordshire University in the historic potteries city of Stoke-on-Trent in the heart of the UK Midlands. JCSG is fully dedicated to serious games and its interdisciplinary characteristics combining game concepts and technologies required in the different application domains.
Over the last two decades, the use of serious games in several fields like learning, simulation, training, health, well-being, management, assessment or marketing exploded. We gained a deeper knowledge on their efficiency and effectiveness, in particular taking into consideration the needs of the digital natives’ generation, and the single or combined use of scientific and artistic fields has grown in acceptance. However, there are still several barriers in the large-scale adoption of serious games. How can these fields be combined to achieve the best possible results? How to increase the perceived quality of serious games in front of the latest emerging entertainment games? How to ensure the capacity of serious games as valuable learning and training tools?
