My experience at the International Security Expo 2023, with recommendations.

I am Melanie Connolly, a Level 5 BSc Criminology student at Staffordshire University, following the organised crime and counter-terrorism pathway.

On 26 September, I attended the International Security Expo 2023 at Olympia London. I had a truly unmissable experience at Expo. The event was well-organised and informative, and the speakers were all experts in their fields. I particularly enjoyed hearing from Dr Ian Acheson, a member of the teaching team at Staffordshire University, and Figen Murray OBE, the mother of Martyn Hett who was killed in the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017. Ian took me into the VIP lounge where I got to meet some very interesting people.

I highly recommend this event to anyone interested in security and counter-terrorism. Here are a few of my recommendations:

  • Attend the conferences and summits as this is a great way to learn from the world's leading security experts on the latest topics, threats, and challenges.
  • Visit the exhibition hall - This is a great opportunity to see the latest security products and services from companies all over the world.
  • Network with other professionals The expo is a great place to meet other people who are interested in security and counter-terrorism.

I attended the Global Counter Terror and Serious and Organised Crime Summit, which brought together government officials, security experts, and academics to discuss the most pressing security issues facing us today.

One of the key takeaways from the summit was the importance of international cooperation in combating security threats. Speakers from all over the world discussed the need for countries to work together to share intelligence and develop joint strategies.

Another key takeaway was the importance of technology in preventing and responding to security threats. Speakers discussed new technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning that can be used to detect and track criminals and terrorists.

In the exhibition hall, I saw a wide range of security products and services, including:

  • Security cameras and software. This is a staple of any security system, and there is a wide range of products available to suit all budgets and needs.
  • Access control systems. These systems can be used to control who can enter and exit a building or secure area.
  • Intrusion detection systems. These systems can be used to detect unauthorized entry into a building or secure area.
  • Cybersecurity solutions. These solutions can be used to protect computer systems and networks from cyberattacks.

I spoke to a number of the companies that were exhibiting at the expo, and I learned a lot about the latest advances in security technology. For example, I learned about new facial recognition software that can be used to identify individuals in real time, and I learned about new cybersecurity solutions that can protect against the latest cyber threats.

I had a fantastic time at the International Security Expo 2023. It was a great opportunity to learn from the world's leading security experts, to see the latest security products and services, and to network with other professionals in the field. I highly recommend this event to anyone interested in security and counter-terrorism.

Final Thoughts

  • Take some time before the event to read about the speakers and topics that you are interested in. This will help you to make the most of your time at the expo.
  • Collect business cards as this is a great way to network with other professionals at the event.
  • Take notes, as the speakers at the expo will share a wealth of information, so it is important to take notes so that you can remember what you learn.
  • Please remember to follow up after the event - follow up with the people you met and the companies you spoke to. This is a great way to stay in touch and to learn more about the security industry.
