Virtual Outreach

Our team provides wide-ranging support to schools and colleges for students ages 5 – 18, delivering on and off-campus activities throughout the year.

Our activities will be conducted in line with the latest official guidance from the UK Government and other relevant authorities, we will therefore offer these as either virtual or face-to-face events, however we want to ensure that you and your students are supported through this time and we have been working hard to provide you with fun and interactive educational and academic enrichment activities to suit a range of different ages.

Our Unibuddy service also allows you to chat with our student ambassadors about course content, student groups and activities, money matters, and what it’s like to live in Staffordshire. Staff members can also answer questions about your chosen course, career prospects, and discuss your personal statement.

We are constantly developing our provision, so make sure to keep checking back for more activities!

Outdoor Activity for all ages

This activity was created by Eimear, a second year (level 5) BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies student, who is currently on placement with the Schools and Colleges Team. This activity encourages children to spend time outside and use their senses to find things in their local area. They can then use their art, design and physics skills to make a wind turbine and a paper aeroplane. This activity involves a race and therefore will encourage children to use their skills in maths to use a timer and work out which plane was fastest.

Poetry and Visual Arts Project

Staffordshire University’s Institute of Education are offering you the opportunity to write a poem or create a piece of visual art based on one of three themes:

  • Shard
  • Point of View
  • Sustainability

Any student from years 7-13 can enter. You do not have to be in top sets or amazing at English or Art – it’s open for everyone and everyone’s contribution will be welcome.

Every poem and piece of artwork will be published electronically in an anthology by the end of the school year and each student who contributes will be sent a copy of the electronic anthology.

Your entries are not marked or assessed and there are no mark schemes or success criteria; your work will purely be enjoyed by a wide range of people. The main thing is that you enjoy what you are creating and use it as an opportunity to voice your opinion, have a little fun and do something different.

There are no rules! Your poem does not have to rhyme, it does not have to have lots of poetic techniques, it can be very short or very long and it can explore any aspect of the theme you have chosen to write about. If you speak another language, you can include words from that language too and it can be simple or abstract. Your poem does, however, have to come from the heart which means it can be sad or funny! You can also present your poem in any way you like – handwritten (as long as it’s legible and clear) or typed. Your artwork doesn’t have to be just a drawing, it can be any art materials you like: a digital image, a craft piece, a collage, a sculpture, a photograph – anything at all that gets you creating, using art materials that you enjoy making with.

Please use the attached booklet for ideas, inspiration and details about how to submit your work.
