The Lichfeldian Award

The Wednesday Morning Class are an inspirational group of individuals whose philosophy values the interest in the humanities, arts, and continued learning. Their compassion has led to the creation of the Lichfeldian Award – supporting the expansion of creative knowledge and encouraging the dedication to the arts by reducing the financial barrier.

The Lichfeldian Award is a £1,000 award to a final year student within Fashion or Surface Pattern and Textile Design who has demonstrated true passion and skill in their area whilst faced with financial barriers.

Designed to encourage artistic experimentation, creation, and promotion of their work, the Lichfeldian Award will support the chosen artist by empowering them to pursue their passions without worrying about financial constraints.

Eligibility criteria

Prospective students must meet all of the following criteria in order to be eligible for The Lichfeldian Award:

  • Pay full tuition fees as a full-time student
  • Have a household income of below £20,000 per annum that is assessed by their award authority (e.g., Student Finance England) 
  • Be studying either BA (Hons) Fashion, or BA (Hons) Surface Pattern and Textile Design
  • Be in their final year of undergraduate study (Level 6)

Key information

Students will be notified via. Blackbullion of the outcome of their application.

Students must upload as part of their application their student finance entitlement letter confirming the amount of maintenance they have been awarded.

The Lichfeldian Award is generously donated by The Wednesday Morning Class and is reviewed annually with the availability.

The funding will be provided directly to the bank account in two instalments, £500 each instalment to a total of £1,000.

The award winner must provide an update to be shared with the University and the Wednesday Morning Class on how they have used the money and how this has supported them with their course.

The award winner must also be willing to be involved in University publicity campaigns e.g. social media, web, magazines if required.

To apply students must register and complete the online application form through Blackbullion and within the personal statement section outline how the award will support them in their final year.

Bursary payment exemptions

The University will conduct a review of a student’s award if the progress or performance in their studies is deemed to be unsatisfactory without an appropriate reason.

Students must be actively engaged in their studies as failure to do so will result in a review and potential removal of the award.

If the student ceases to no longer be a registered student at the University, they will no longer be eligible for payments.

The University has the right to withdraw the award from anyone who is found to have misled the institution about any aspect of their eligibility and to seek repayment of any monies already paid to them.

The University has the right to award/withdraw an award within 14-days of the student being made aware of their outcome if an administrative error has occurred.

University of Staffordshire reserves the right to revise or amend these terms and conditions at any time without prior notice.
