Study at a top ten university

Complete University Guide 2019

To get your career off to a flying start, Staffordshire University has a range of courses - Events Management, Esports and Visitor Attraction and Resort Management.  You will enter a course that reflects the industry in terms of course design and teaching team.

Over the past ten years the sector has seen consistent economic growth within the UK economy and internationally.  Your chosen course will give you the opportunity to develop key industry specific skills such as creative thinking, logistics, production management, event design, problem solving and the mechanism to manage consumer experience.

Students will be given the opportunity to interact and engage with a range of festivals, visitor attractions and events from a UK, European and international perspective.  The UK has seen over 500 festivals per year with approximately 7 million festival attendees each year.

Each course has the opportunity for students to participate in an industry placement that will give them confidence for future employability.

Innovative courses have been designed to introduce and engage the next generation of industry leaders, resort managers and event producers.

Work experience and careers

Whatever you choose to study at Staffordshire University you will have the opportunity of a work-placement, where you’ll gain experience and connections to give you an edge in your future career.

This work experience may be closely linked to your course, or it could be a broader experience designed to develop your employability skills. Our commitment will give students the best possible mix of knowledge and experience.

Work Experience Opportunities

If you'd love a career in the leisure industry, our brand new Foundation Degree in Visitor Attraction and Resort Management has been structured to give you the skills and knowledge you need, including 20 weeks' paid employment Alton Towers Resort. Learning on-the-job and in the classroom, you'll be 'on park' at some of the most popular times in the resort's calendar - including the famous Halloween 'Scarefest' - where you'll gain a solid understanding of creating memorable visitor experiences.

Starting with front-line roles in year one, you'll progress to team leadership in year two and will be ready to apply for career opportunities with Alton Towers Resort and the wider Merlin Entertainments Group when you graduate.

Our students

Hannah Mannion
Events Manager, The Trentham Estate

I work across all elements of events at Trentham including managing large in house events such as the summer outdoor concerts and project managing external events such as Staffs Uni Graduations. Contract writing, client liaison, contractor and supplier liaison, writing events management plans and risk assessments are all my remit. It's a mixed bag, but I love it. My degree at Staffs was the best thing I've ever done.

Nick Kerry
Visitor Attraction and Resort Management FdA

This course has taught me many things about how a Business operates, from the marketing and promotional side of the industry to how vital accommodating industry laws and appropriate budgeting is to each department, whilst maintaining high standards of customer service, which are all covered in university lectures.

Greta Liaudanskaite
Tourism Management

I can see how the degree helped develop certain skills, both academic and personal, through working with other people or individually. What I liked most about my time at Staffs was the opportunities available to get involved with various events and tourist attractions.

Simon Hope
Visitor Attraction and Resort Management FdA Graduate

The best thing about studying at Staffs is the experiences you get, the connections that you make and the general friendliness from all of the staff.
