Visa outcomes

Once your Student visa has been approved, this is great news as you can now plan for your University of Staffordshire student experience. Please let us know so that we can prepare for your arrival.

Please also let us know:

  • If your visa is refused - please provide the University with a copy of the refusal notice.

  • If there's any delay in your visa application process, or in the booking of your travel to the UK. The University has a responsibility to inform UKVI.

  • If you’re successful in obtaining a Student visa but cannot enrol at the University on time. The University has a responsibility to report late students to the UKVI if you do not inform us. This will result in your visa being curtailed and unfortunately this process cannot be reversed.

If you need further advice or information about studying with us, please contact the International Admissions team.

Visa approvals

Once you have submitted your student visa application you will be expected to keep us updated with the outcome of your visa application. This can be done by updating your Visa Status on CAS Shield.

You are required to update your Visa Status via CAS Shield immediately upon receipt of your decision. You must upload your official decision letter and provide your e-visa share code for verification. To access your e-visa you will need register for a UKVI account. More information can be found on the UK Government website.

Once your flight is booked, you must also log your arrival status and upload a full travel itinerary.

Accessing your Student eVisa

Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) have been replaced with a online digital status known as an eVisa. To access to your Student eVisa, you will need to create a UK Visa and Immigration account. Once you have access to your eVisa you can sign into this account to view your eVisa and prove your immigration status. To find out more, please visit Gov.uk or UKCISA

Visa refusals

In the event of a visa refusal, you must update your status on CAS Shield immediately and upload the complete refusal notice issued by the Home Office. The University will conduct a formal compliance review of the refusal grounds to determine if an Administrative Review (AR) is viable. Please note that the issuance of a subsequent CAS is not guaranteed; it is at the University’s sole discretion and contingent upon a successful risk assessment.

For details regarding financial implications, refer to our International Deposit Refund Policy.

Visa delays

As your sponsor, the University must be informed of your visa status at all times. If your application exceeds standard UKVI processing times or is subject to external delays, you must immediately update your status on CAS Shield. Proactive reporting is essential for us to manage your sponsorship and advise on your enrolment viability.

University sponsorship is valid only if you can arrive and commence your studies by the Latest Start Date stated on your CAS.

If visa delays prevent you from arriving by this mandatory deadline, the University will be unable to maintain your sponsorship for the current intake. In these circumstances, it may be appropriate to withdraw sponsorship and issue an automatic deferral.
