Studying Nursing Practice (Adult)

Meet your course leader

Hi I'm Jennifer Bate and I'm the course leader for the BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing at our Stoke-on-Trent campus.

My main areas of interest are infection prevention and control antimicrobial stewardship and patient safety.

My healthcare experience started out working as a health care assistant in an elderly care home for 5 years, where I completed my NVQ’s in care and progressed my application for nursing.

I qualified as a registered nurse with University of Staffordshire in 2003. I initially worked in acute medicine and subsequently specialised in Infection Prevention & Control with experience working in acute, community and commissioning organisations. I have worked as a quality nurse in primary care and care homes supporting organisations with internal and external quality monitoring of their services.

I’m passionate about preventing healthcare associated infection, antimicrobial stewardship, and patient safety.

I feel very privileged to be back where I studied and be part of the team in teaching and developing our future healthcare professionals.
