Studying Midwifery

Introducing your course leader, Keely Shires

My name is Keely Shires, and I am the Course Leader for the Bachelor of Midwifery (BMid) programme at University of Staffordshire. I qualified as a midwife in 2014 and began my career as a rotational midwife, gaining experience in all aspects of midwifery care, including antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with women from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of healthcare needs.

I then joined the PROMPT team, where I had the opportunity to teach midwives, obstetricians, maternity support workers, and students. My journey continued as an educational link within the trust, working closely with universities to support students placed within the trust. Eventually, I fulfilled my dream role as part of the midwifery team at University of Staffordshire.

I’ve been in this role for almost three years, and I still look forward to coming to work each day.
