Hi, I’m Benhur Bastaki and I’m the course leader for the BSc (Hons) Artificial Intelligence course.

I’m passionate about supporting students throughout their academic journey and ensuring they gain real-world, industry-relevant knowledge. My research focuses on AI, machine learning, and computer vision, developing innovative solutions to real-world challenges. I integrate these insights into my teaching to ensure you stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI.

The society recently organised an exciting workshop on hashing and encryption. The session broke down complex concepts into simple, hands-on lessons, making learning interactive and approachable.   • University AI Cloud Challenge 2024 - Our students showcased their exceptional talent and innovation in artificial intelligence and cloud computing, achieving 26th place out of 143 universities in the University AI Cloud Challenge 2024. We proudly outperformed prestigious institutions like Cambridge, Oxford, Portsmouth, Coventry, and Liverpool.
  • Minecraft hour of code sessions - This workshop introduced programming fundamentals through the fun of Minecraft while incorporating cutting-edge generative AI concepts. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to delve into the exciting possibilities of AI in a hands-on and interactive environment.
  • Space robotics and the Mars Rover workshop - We learned about the design and operation of robots like the Mars Rover, gaining hands-on experience with the technology used to explore the Red Planet. This workshop provided valuable insights into the challenges of space robotics and the role of autonomous systems in planetary exploration.
  • Conveyor belt Internet of Things (IoT) workshop - The IoT workshop explored the application of IoT technologies to automate conveyor belt systems. Our students learned to integrate sensors, data collection, and real-time monitoring, gaining practical skills in designing smart systems that optimise efficiency and explore the exciting potential of IoT in industrial automation.
