Mark Edwards

Lecturer

Staffordshire Games Institute (SGI)

As a Lecturer in Games Design within the Staffordshire Games Institute (SGI) at the University of Staffordshire, Mark combines games design education with hands-on technical development and creative practice. His teaching focuses on helping students understand games not only as designed experiences, but as interactive systems that can be rapidly prototyped, tested and developed using contemporary game technologies.

Mark's practice spans game development, technical design, interactive audio, and arcade systems. He works extensively with Unity and Unreal Engine and workflows to support games development and teaching. A particular area of interest is the design and development of arcade experiences, including custom cabinets, control systems and software designed to enable students to develop and showcase games on dedicated arcade hardware.

His teaching is strongly practice-based, with an emphasis on experimentation, prototyping and giving students the technical confidence to realise their own creative ideas. Alongside his teaching, Mark continues to explore new approaches to game development tools, alternative interfaces and the relationship between software, hardware and game design.
