An insight into the creative industries: present and potential futures

Masterclass

Outline

Studying a unit or course which has to explore current industry debates, ideas, principles and practices?

Join our experienced staff to give an insight into current film, media, animation, television, and theatre industry debates. You can shape which areas of the creative industries you want to explore from the following (or mix it up/bring cohorts together):

  • Broadcasting and Journalism
  • Film and Media, including VFX and virtual production
  • Animation
  • Theatre and Stage
  • Music and Sound
  • Creative Writing

By the end of the session, it is hoped that our panel of experts, who are also working professionals, will give an informed insight into current practices, as well as inspiring and provoking students to think about how they may change these practices if they wish to go into the creative industries.

Topics include:

  • Getting things made – is there a ‘closed door’?
  • Generating your own work
  • Casting

The discussion will also be informed by how equality and diversity movements such as Me Too, Black Lives Matter, and We Shall Not be Removed are rapidly changing the landscape of how the industries operate. From sustainability agendas, casting, representation, equal pay and working conditions, and right up to how the Oscars will operate, your students will see how change is flattening historical and current hierarchies.
